Last summer when she was 2, I convinced Mom and Dad to get her some swim lessons. A is at the beach almost every weekend, they have a pool in their backyard, and I could swim when I was 2 so I figured she should learn sometime soon too. They found a guy to come to their house and teach A and two of her other friends some lessons, but A would scream and cry everytime she went into the water. I swam with her a few times and she would hold on to me for dear life, but she was getting used to the water and that was fine.
This summer was completely different! A is such the little fish now! Mom found a great swim instructor who played games in the water with A, and she loved it! A can now swim all over the place, push her head up for air (without me screaming, BREATHE!!) and jump into the pool in the deep end. I'm so proud of her.
We went swimming Friday afternoon for an hour and a half until it started to rain. She was swimming all over the place and only held on to me once when she swallowed too much water and had quite the coughing fit, but it was all good. I was

You knew how to swim at 2-yrs-old? That's crazy! The 6-yr-old I nanny for is still scared of the water!
Yup, most Florida babies learn to swim really early because we are surrounded by water. Almost everyone has either a pool or goes to the beach, so the kids are really encouraged to learn how to swim to prevent drowning.
My brother was scared of the water too actually, he still won't go in the ocean and he's 12!!
