Today I had the chance to watch twin 7 week olds from 1-7:30 and I jumped at it. They're babies, adorable cute little babies, how hard could it be? Um yeah, I don't think I went for at least 5 minutes without an infant in my hands.
The mom is a friend of a gym teacher's that I know and she gave her my number. The mom called me yesterday and sounded pretty desperate - apparently the woman that usually helps her out was out of town for two weeks and she needed someone to come and help her today. She sounded nice enough and I figured that she needed help for the babies if she was willing to call a complete stranger to come and help her with her newborns.
I got there today and she answered the door holding baby L (The boy). We talked for a few seconds and then she had me go to the bassinet and pick up baby F (the girl) to play with her on her little tummy mat. Baby L and F are adorable! I'm so glad I went. I fed them each 2 bottles, changed both of their diapers twice, gave them baths, played with them on the floor, took them on a walk and put them to bed for the night. It was a lot of work (seriously I applaud all you mothers of multiples; you must have zero time on your hands), but wonderful experience and she wants me to come every Thursday. I'd love to, but my regular family has me every Thursday (popular day?). A large part of me says to tell the people I usually work for that I can't work on that day for them anymore, but I know that I don't have the courage to do that. I'm telling momboss however to let me know if she ever doesn't need me on a Thursday so that I can go play with the twinsies. The mom was very insistent upon me coming back again.I forgot how different newborns are from older babies. They were so sweet cuddling up to me in my arms and they fit perfectly! I need to work on my burping skills though - I couldn't get L to burp!
The mom and her husband were both journalists and they both worked at the paper that I'll intern at in Ft. Meyers! She said if I ever need help getting an internship to call them and they'll set it up for me. How cool is that? Her husband worked at USA Today and she worked at some other big places too, plus they went to the journalism school that I'll eventually go to. I'm so lucky that she called me! I knew having infant cpr certification would pay off one day!
Okay so enough rambling about how in love I am with babies (because we already knew that to begin with). The other day I got into my first car accident - lovely, I know. I was at my friends house and he was going to wash my car. Someone was parked in my regular spot and when the left, I went to go park in it. I'm backing up and apparently sometime when I was backing up, some jerk in a little sports car zips past me and into a spot. I had just checked my mirror and no one was there so I kept backing up until CRASH and I looked up in my mirror to see this guy coming up to my car and my friend with his mouth open. And then the first thing I thought was OMG. The
I'm hanging out with my friend, waiting for him to wash my car when I look to the side of my car and OMG The side bumper above the wheel had popped out. Basically all we needed was someone to pop it back in, but it scared the living hell out of me. My first thought was, "MY BABY", my second thought was, "OMG How much is this going to cost me? I have no money. God help me." I took it to Sears auto place and thankfully the guy just popped the part back in with no charge to me at all. I do however need to find a screw for my bumper, hopefully that doesn't cost that much.
I learned my lesson though. Always, Always, Always check your mirror when backing up, because some jerk in a sportscar could zip past you at any second. And then you could hit it. And then you could be royally screwed. I also learned that I do care about my car - I almost hyperventallated when I saw the damage, so thank God it wasn't worse and could be easily fixed.
So that was my weekend (well yesterday morning at least). Now I'm off to go wash my face and go to bed, I'm exhausted and need my sleep. Apparently the whole, "sleep when the baby sleeps" thing doesn't apply with twins.

I've been in several accidents. Don't feel bad.
And I think twins would be so hard!!
kids are always more fun when you can give them back to their parents...unless there is more than one and then even a little while with them can be trying.
ooooooooo I hate car accidents!
Aww My cousin had twins on my birthday 4 years ago and they're fabulous. I love them and I remember how tiny and fun they were when they were born! :) lovely post. SO SORRY to hear about your car accident though! Glad they can fix these things easily.
I NEVER back up into a spot!! lol I'm a horrid backer upper!
My girls were two years apart but like twins because Mercede was so tiny and behind. No way would I want them or want to watch them!! lol
I Love twins (and newborns) too. I've watched several sets, starting w/overnights and then staying on PT in the day as needed. I'm working PT w/two year old twin boys and they keep me busy, too...although it is a bit easier than the infant stage.
yay for twin newborns! babies are the best...but i cant imagine having 2 at the same time! i hope you get to hang out with them more often. and how good is God to set you up with these people who can help your career in the future!
I love little babies. I used to hold my little nephew every chance I got. And this spring I get to hold my little niece Anaka Ren. : )
Yes, Anaka. Because they were going to name her Anakin originally.
My brother shouldn't be allowed to name his own children.
And I wish you HAD damaged his car. A lot. Because then at least he'd learn to stop freaking popping into spots when someone is OBVIOUSLY backing into it.
Yay! Babies! I love babies! Lucky nothing too bad happened to your car. Stupid sports cars.
I. am. so. jealous.
I love babies!!
I hope you get to spend a lot of time babysitting them!! YAY! :)
